Featured Projects

My primary focus is on developing scalable and distributed systems, often referred to as “big data” systems, for the collection, processing, and analysis of extensive sensor data. In this capacity, I have designed and constructed solutions that gather surveillance signals from aircraft on a global scale.

EMIT

I’m the technical lead for the European Monitoring of Interrogators and Transponders (EMIT), EUROCNTROL’s monitoring system, which is helping European Air Navigation Service Providers (ANSPs) to detect and mitigate transponder and interrogator anomalies.

SecureTrack

SecureTrack can address and mitigate the inherent vulnerabilities in ADS-B by detecting cyber intrusions in terms of ADS-B spoofing and GPS interference. My role involves contributing to the development of SecureTrack, specifically focusing on system and software architecture.

Lib1090

I’m co-maintaining lib1090, a Mode S, ADS-B, TIS-B and ADS-R decoding library for Java. Serving as the backbone for SeRo System’s analysis platforms, it has also found adoption by prominent entities within the aviation industry.

The OpenSky Network

The OpenSky Network is a community-based receiver network which continuously collects air traffic surveillance data. Unlike other networks, OpenSky keeps the collected data forever and makes it available to researchers. I was the main developer behind OpenSky’s data processing and APIs.

Publications

In my prior roles as a Research Engineer, I had the chance to contribute to several research papers focusing on big data, cybersecurity, and open source intelligence. Below, you’ll find a curated list of selected publications from this period.
